CBI arrests 2 BJP workers for murder of Suvendu Adhikari’s PA Chandranath Rath

The CBI arrested two BJP workers, Sagar Sonkar and Sahib Sonkar, for the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari.

The Sonkar brothers allegedly planned the murder, arranged shooters, provided logistics, and helped conduct recce at the behest of a rival political party leader.

Rath, 41, a former Indian Air Force officer, was shot dead inside his SUV in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas, on May 6, within 48 hours of West Bengal Assembly election results.

The case was transferred from West Bengal Police SIT to CBI due to sensitivity; nine people, including six shooters and three middlemen, have been arrested so far.

CBI noted phone calls between Sagar and a rival party office and is trying to identify the person; Sagar had worked with an MLA of the rival party before joining BJP in 2020.
