UK farmers warn of food shortages due to drought

UK's National Farmers’ Union (NFU) warned Britain could face food shortages amid drought in parts of England.

UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued heat health alerts for eight regions of England as temperatures may exceed 30C.

England had just 8 per cent of its average rainfall for July, likely the driest July on record.

NFU president Tom Bradshaw asked the prime minister to act and proposed tax breaks for farmers to build water storage.

Crops like wheat and barley have been particularly affected, with wheat crops half their normal height and earliest ever harvest.
