MP seeks Puri’s intervention on jobs for displaced
MP Capt Brijesh Chowta requested petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri to intervene on permanent job commitments for project displaced families (PDFs) at GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL).
In 2012, 115.3 acres were acquired from local families for a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant by JBF Petrochemicals Limited (JBFPL), with a binding pledge to provide full-time regular employment to at least 115 displaced members.
GAIL (India) Limited acquired the plant via an NCLT resolution plan, and its subsidiary GMPL legally inherited the rehabilitation obligations.
Despite a ministry directive in August 2024 to expedite recruitment, GMPL issued offer letters stipulating initial five-year engagements with possible extensions, contrary to the promised permanent employment.
