Mumbai Railway Expansion Hit By Encroachments: 1,574 Illegal Structures Identified Across Key MRVC Projects

An RTI reply revealed 1,574 encroachments on land for two MRVC projects: Kalyan-Badlapur third and fourth rail lines and Airoli-Kalwa Elevated Corridor.

Of these, 998 encroachments have been removed, but around 17,068 square metres of land remains occupied.

For the Kalyan-Badlapur project, 706 encroachments were identified; 620 cleared, but 9,668 sq metres still encroached.

For the Airoli-Kalwa Elevated Corridor, 868 encroachments were identified; 378 removed, with 7,400 sq metres still occupied.

MRVC said rehabilitation and coordination with authorities are ongoing to complete the projects.
