New Drugs Panel Recommends Biometric Authentication Of Blood Donors For Transfusion Safety

Drugs Consultative Committee (DCC) recommended biometric authentication of blood donors to create unique donor identity and prevent duplicate registrations.

DCC proposed making e-RaktKosh portal registration mandatory for all licensed blood centres to strengthen transfusion safety.

DCC also recommended mandatory participation in External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS) for blood centres.

Rules will be amended to give statutory backing to e-RaktKosh registration and EQAS participation.

A sub-committee will study implementation, feasibility, and legal/privacy aspects of biometric authentication.
