Three CWG medallists to vie for one 53kg Olympic berth

New Olympic weight classes for LA 2028, effective August 1, 2026, group Mirabai Chanu, Gyaneshwari Yadav, and Bindiyarani Devi in the women's 53kg category.

Women's divisions for LA 2028 are 53kg, 61kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, and +86kg.

Mirabai Chanu, a 48-49kg lifter for 12-13 years, will move up to 53kg, which national coach Vijay Sharma says will work to her advantage.

Gyaneshwari Yadav, who won silver in 53kg at the CWG with a 199kg national record lift, is naturally in that weight class and may have an edge.

Bindiyarani Devi, bronze in 58kg at the CWG, will drop to 53kg on coach's advice, though she could have moved to 61kg.
