In 2015, Arron Culling and his coworker Mark bought two live sea turtles from a food market in Papua New Guinea to prevent them from being consumed.

They transported the turtles by boat about five kilometers and released them into the ocean, where they swam away safely.

The rescue was captured in photographs that continue to be shared online as an example of individual conservation action.

Culling and Mark had previously rescued around 10 turtles, using their own money each time.

The purchase cost was approximately $50.
