8th Pay Commission: Central staff await salary hike after meeting

A key meeting on the 8th Pay Commission for Central government employees and pensioners concluded in Kolkata.

Employee unions demanded a higher fitment factor, with the NC-JCM proposing 3.833 versus the current 2.57.

If accepted, the minimum basic salary could rise from ₹18,000 to ₹69,000, though this is a proposal not a final decision.

Unions also pushed for revisions to Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and pension structure.

The changes would benefit around 50 lakh central government employees and over 65 lakh pensioners if implemented.
