Marine Corps says F-35B stealth fighter crashed in California, pilot ejected

A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B jet crashed near Miramar Air Base in San Diego, California on Friday afternoon.

The pilot ejected and was taken to a medical facility; the incident was classified as a 'Class A mishap'.

The F-35B is a version of the stealth fighter capable of short takeoffs and vertical landings.

A vegetation fire near the crash site was attended by San Diego Fire and rescue crews.
