Monsoon returns in Karnataka with landslide risk, but only for a while

Southwest monsoon revived across parts of Karnataka on July 17, 2026, after a fortnight-long lull.

The revival was triggered by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to be short-lived, with dry conditions returning early next week.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued Orange and Yellow alerts for very heavy rainfall in coastal and Malnad districts over the next two days.

IMD warned of heightened landslide risk in the Western Ghats and coastal Karnataka due to heavy rainfall on saturated hill slopes.

Bengaluru received light to moderate showers, providing relief from recent high temperatures.
