Death toll from Venezuela's twin earthquakes reaches 4,300

Venezuela's official death toll from the twin earthquakes on June 24 rose to 4,333, with 16,740 injured.

More than 6,400 people have been pulled alive from the rubble, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez.

The quakes measured magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, affecting at least seven states, with worst impact in La Guaira and Greater Caracas.

President Delcy Rodríguez called for release of frozen Venezuelan assets, including gold at the Bank of England, for earthquake relief and reconstruction.

Survivor searches increasingly gave way to recovery 17 days after the disaster, with families sheltering in improvised sites.
