Move high court on SIR-linked ration card cancellation: Supreme Court to petitioner

The Supreme Court refused to hear a petition by Mohibulla Mondal challenging Bengal government's cancellation of ration cards linked to voter list deletions after Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The court directed Mondal to pursue his appeal before the tribunal; a favorable outcome would restore his name on the electoral roll and reinstate welfare benefits.

The bench stated that the issue of linking SIR deletions to ration card cancellations must be challenged in the High Court.

Mondal's digital ration card under NFSA Priority Household category was cancelled after his name was removed from the voter list due to doubtful citizenship during SIR.

The Supreme Court ordered the tribunal to decide Mondal's appeal within two months.
