Enquiry into award of contracts: CBI claims non-cooperation from Arunachal Pradesh govt

The CBI told the Supreme Court that the Arunachal Pradesh government is not cooperating in providing records for a preliminary enquiry into allegations of preferential allotment of contracts for public works.

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued notice to the chief secretary and principal secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh government, requiring them to appear on August 24 to explain the non-cooperation.

On April 6, the top court directed the CBI to register a preliminary enquiry into allegations that contracts were awarded to firms owned by kin of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

The preliminary enquiry covers the award and execution of public works contracts in Arunachal Pradesh from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2025.

The plea for a CBI or SIT probe was filed by NGOs Save Mon Region Federation and Voluntary Arunachal Sena.
