Mississippi footballer Nolan Wells dead; cause unknown

Nolan Wells, a Mississippi footballer, died during a July 4 outing to Horn Island; his body was found face down in water on July 6.

Wells was the only Black person in the friend group; the other three friends returned home safely.

Police have not released an official cause of death; drowning is suspected but not confirmed.

Family attorney Ben Crump sent Wells' body to Washington, DC for an independent autopsy; toxicology results are pending.

Snapchat and Life360 location data from Wells' phone are being compared by his family.
