Florida judge John Steele dies after impeachment motion

Florida immigration Judge John E. Steele died suddenly hours after Rep. Greg Steube filed an impeachment motion against him.

Steele had ordered the release of Cuban plane hijacker Miakel Guerra Morales from ICE custody on July 8.

Rep. Greg Steube accused Steele of judicial overreach and brought a motion for impeachment for alleged high crimes and misdemeanors.

The circumstances and cause of Steele's death were not immediately clear.

Steele's death was confirmed by a law clerk for Chief Judge Marcia Morales Howard of the Middle District of Florida.
