Second Lt Puneet Nath Datt of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles was killed on July 20, 1997, during a counter-terrorist operation in Jammu & Kashmir’s Naushera.
He was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry decoration.
A bronze bust of Second Lt Datt was installed at Puneet Nath Datt Park in Defence Colony, Delhi, on the 29th anniversary of his martyrdom.
The bust was sculpted by artist Anil Sutar, known for his work on the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
Former CDS General Anil Chauhan and veterans of 11 Gorkha Rifles attended the unveiling ceremony.
