Ludhiana: Consumers throng PSPCL offices over ‘inflated’ power bills

Consumers in Ludhiana lined up at PSPCL offices over inflated electricity bills after a 23-day strike by 315 outsourced meter readers disrupted readings.
PSPCL issued provisional N-code bills based on previous year's consumption when actual meter readings were unavailable during the strike.
PSPCL stated that once regular meter readings resume, the billing system will automatically adjust any difference between the provisional and actual bill amounts.
Of 1,18,286 bills generated in the central zone, 61,598 exceeded ₹5,000, prompting consumer concerns about overcharging.
Chief engineer Jagdev Singh Hans urged consumers not to panic, citing ongoing manpower shortages due to vacant posts and staff deputed for election and census work.
