Maharashtra’s daily milk collection drops by 750k litres after FDA crackdown

Maharashtra’s average daily milk procurement dropped by 751,000 litres from May to June 2026 after FDA crackdown on adulterated milk.

FDA inspected around 360 establishments, seized 160,329 litres of adulterated milk worth ₹65.17 lakh, suspended 35 licences, and registered seven FIRs in two months.

Synthetic milk syndicates used hazardous ingredients like skimmed milk powder, vegetable oil, detergent, shampoo, contaminated water, and urea.

Daily procurement fell from 17.923 million litres (May) to 17.172 million litres (June), and from 18.923 million litres in January, a decline of 1.8 million litres since then.

Animal husbandry department noted the drop raises questions about whether earlier procurement hike was due to adulterated milk.
