SC lifts 2-year-old blanket ban on setting up of industries in Taj zone

  1. Supreme Court lifted a two-year-old blanket ban on setting up industries in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ).

  2. The ban was imposed on October 14, 2024, barring establishment of any industrial unit in the 10,400 sq km area without court permission.

  3. The court accepted a suggestion to involve experts from the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) and the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in scrutinizing 410 pending applications.

  4. The TTZ authority's Industry Technical Evaluation Committee will include a domain expert from CEC and NEERI, with veto power over non-polluting character of industries.

  5. Disputed applications will be placed before the Supreme Court for final adjudication.
