FSDA probe: ‘Blue capsules’ emerge as latest prescription drug abuse threat

FSDA in Uttar Pradesh seized narcotic and prescription medicines worth ₹1.37 crore in raids over the past fortnight.

FSDA officer Brijesh Kumar Yadav said the recovered 'blue capsules' were supplied through retail channels after being brought into Lucknow from outside the state.

Investigation is tracking the entire distribution network, not limited to seizures, to identify all involved in the supply chain.

Seized medicines include Spasmo Proxyvon, Pregabalin, Gabapentin, and Tramadol, which carry high risk of dependence and abuse.

In May 2026, the Union health ministry shifted Pregabalin to the stricter Schedule H1 category under the Drugs Rules.
