Hidden in Egypt's Dakhla Oasis, 7,000-year-old rock carvings are slowly disappearing

,000-year-old petroglyphs in Egypt's Dakhla Oasis are being degraded by natural erosion, shifting weather, and modern graffiti.

The Dakhla Oasis, 350 km west of the Nile Valley, holds thousands of rock carvings showing animals, humans, and symbols from a wetter Sahara.

The Dakhleh Oasis Project has documented hundreds of rock art sites with inscriptions in hieroglyphics, Coptic, Greek, Arabic, and other scripts.

Archaeologists are recording the fragile rock art to preserve details before they are permanently lost.
