BRICS statistical heads’ meet begins in Lucknow, focuses on quality data, digital dissemination

Heads of National Statistical Offices from BRICS nations met in Lucknow for a two-day meeting focused on data quality and digital dissemination.
India's Chairship hosted the meeting with 350+ participants from 10 member countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and UAE.
The draft BRICS Joint Statistical Publication (JPS) 2026 and Snapshot BRICS JSP 2026 were released on the opening day; members will provide inputs before final adoption.
India's theme for the 2026 Statistics Track is 'Quality Statistics as Driver of Change', with priorities on modernizing statistical systems, using administrative data and Digital Public Infrastructure, and strengthening data governance.
A technical session featured presentations from India, Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, and the UAE on using digital tools to make data more accessible to citizens.
