Govt to take back plots if no house is built within 5 years, refund cost with interest: K'taka CM

Karnataka CM D K Shivakumar announced that government will take back plots if no house is built within five years, refunding the amount with interest.

The decision applies to sites allotted by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), the erstwhile City Improvement Trust Board (CITB), civic bodies, and cooperative societies.

The move aims to prevent vacant sites from becoming garbage dumping grounds; double tax will be imposed if a house is not constructed within five years.

Shivakumar said some allottees have left plots vacant for 20-40 years, and the government will resume the plots and refund the money paid with interest.

The announcement was made after launching the 'Freedom from Waste' campaign near Hebbal Junction in Bengaluru.
