DMK MLA gets bail days after arrest for remarks against chief minister Vijay

The Madras high court granted bail to DMK MLA GV Markandayan, who represents Vilathikulam constituency, on August 3, 2026.

Markandayan was arrested on July 20 for remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay at a DMK meeting on July 18.

Bail conditions include filing an affidavit undertaking not to make such remarks again and appearing before the investigating officer twice daily for two weeks.

The case was registered under BNS Sections 351(3), 352, and 353(2) for criminal intimidation, intentional insults, and promoting enmity, following a complaint by a ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam functionary.

The prosecution alleged Markandayan threatened to break Vijay's bones and harm him inside the assembly; the state did not object to bail but sought prevention of future remarks.
