Australian agronomist Tony Rinaudo's FMNR revives Niger's dry landscapes with 200 million trees

Australian agronomist Tony Rinaudo developed Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) to revive living tree stumps, roots, and seeds in Niger.

FMNR helped farmers regenerate over 200 million trees without planting new seedlings, by pruning existing underground growth.

The low-cost technique restored millions of hectares of degraded farmland and improved food security.

Indigenous trees regenerated, providing shade, preventing soil erosion, and enriching soil with leaf litter.

FMNR is now a global model for restoring degraded land worldwide.
