Mohali MLA revives demand to shift Airport Road gurdwara

Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh raised the issue in Punjab Vidhan Sabha on August 3, 2026, questioning the delay in relocating Gurdwara Mata Sundari on Airport Road.

The gurdwara sits in the middle of a sharp S-curve on the six-lane Airport Road, creating four dangerous bends that have caused 50-60 deaths and hundreds of injuries since the road opened 14 years ago.

An earlier agreement with Budha Dal Samparday, headed by Baba Balbir Singh, proposed allotting three acres of alternative land and ₹3 crore for reconstruction, but the government instead served a notice cancelling the land allotment.

The MLA stressed that straightening the carriageway is a public safety issue, not just a development matter, as the arterial road connects Mohali to Chandigarh International Airport.
