Lko’s Kalyan Singh cancer institute: Another doctor quits; psychiatry dept set to shut down

Dr Abhinav Tiwari, an assistant professor in psychiatry, resigned from Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI) with a one-month notice period.

KSSSCI's psychiatry department is expected to become non-functional after Dr Tiwari's departure, affecting cancer patients needing psychiatric counselling.

The resignation is attributed to a significant salary gap between KSSSCI and other government medical institutions, making it difficult to retain specialist faculty.

Around 28 specialist doctors have left KSSSCI over the past two years; the institute currently has only 42 specialist doctors against a sanctioned strength of 121.
