NGT stays work on Naharpur Kasan wetland plot in Manesar

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) prohibited construction on a 6.93-acre plot in Manesar's Naharpur Kasan, acquired by HSIIDC, after it was identified as a 'gair mumkin johad' (non-cultivable pond) in 2023-24 revenue records.

A joint committee's July 17 inspection found the pond filled and a metal road under construction, leading to the NGT stay.

HSIIDC planned around 250 rehabilitation allotments on the land; it remains unclear whether plans were based on older records that did not classify it as a wetland.

The petition filed in March alleged violations of the Wetland Rules 2010 and risk to groundwater; the committee confirmed the pond was completely filled and encroached upon.

The NGT ordered HSIIDC and others to respond to the inspection report by the next hearing on October 5.
