HC stays HSGMC decision on constitution of board for Miri Piri medical institute

The Punjab and Haryana high court stayed the September 2024 HSGMC decision notifying a board for the Miri Piri Institute of Medical Sciences, Shahbad.

The 500-bed medical college and hospital, operational since March 2006, was established by the Miri Piri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Charitable Trust.

The trust argues it is an independent charitable trust constituted by SGPC and its assets are not 'gurdwara property', so HSGMC has no jurisdiction.

HSGMC contends that under the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Act, 2014, it is entitled to take over institutions formerly managed by SGPC in Haryana.

The court's stay follows an appeal against a single judge's dismissal; the matter is next heard on October 16.
