UP vigilance books 5 engineers, contractor in ₹16.69 cr dewatering scam

Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment registered a case against five irrigation department engineers and a contractor for a ₹16.69 crore dewatering scam.

The accused allegedly approved dewatering charges of ₹38, ₹40, and ₹41.40 per KWH against the prescribed departmental rate of ₹27 per KWH.

The FIR names superintending engineer Kaushal Kumar, assistant engineers Sanjay Kumar, Yashwant Singh, Manoj Kumar Agrawal, junior engineer Sukhbir Singh, and contractor Rajbir Singh.

The case was filed under Sections 120-B and 420 of the IPC and Sections 13(1)(a) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

A detailed criminal investigation has been initiated to examine the roles of each accused and financial transactions.
