Decks clear for 10k additional Delhi fire dept personnel
The Union ministry of home affairs approved creation of 10,743 new posts for the Delhi Fire Service, raising sanctioned strength from 3,175 to 13,918.
The proposal was technically vetted based on SFAC (Standing Fire Advisory Council) benchmarks and RMSI consultant report, along with Delhi Fire Service (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
New posts include 3,546 for specialised response teams handling hazmat, emergency rescue, CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) incidents and aerial ladder platforms.
The proposal also includes 294 posts for training institutions, 170 for prevention and headquarters, 144 for a dedicated search and rescue company, and 320 for technical wings.
The vetted proposal is now with the Delhi government for final procedural sanction, as confirmed by Chief fire officer AK Malik.
