Chandigarh has achieved just 20% of PNG goal: Parliament data

Chandigarh recorded 34,175 domestic PNG connections as of May 31, 2026, against a minimum work programme (MWP) target of 1.75 lakh, achieving only 20%.

Indian Oil-Adani Gas Pvt Ltd (IOAGPL) introduced PNG in Chandigarh in 2016 and has laid pipelines across Sectors 32-38, 40-51, Industrial Area, Phases 1 and 2, and Manimajra, covering roughly 30% of the city.

Under the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026, households in areas with PNG pipelines must switch to PNG within three months of notice, or LPG refills may be discontinued.

The city has nearly 3.08 lakh LPG connections, highlighting the gap in PNG adoption.

The UT administration is conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns and daily registration camps in housing societies to boost PNG connections.
