Bahraich: 12-year-old boy dragged into river by crocodile, killed as uncle watches helplessly

  1. A 12-year-old boy, Sunil Singh, was killed by a crocodile in the Ghaghara (Saryu) river in Tikuri gram panchayat under Baundi police station in Mahsi tehsil, Bahraich.

  2. Sunil had gone with his uncle, Vijay Raj Singh, to transplant paddy and was washing at the river around 2 pm when the crocodile emerged and dragged him in.

  3. Villagers threw bricks and stones at the crocodile, but it tossed the boy into the air, slammed him into the water, and dragged him deeper, swallowing nearly half his body.

  4. The body was recovered around 8:30 pm after a nearly five-hour search; forest ranger Sakib Ansari confirmed the crocodile had severely mauled the victim, consuming his right leg and lower body.

  5. Sub-divisional magistrate Prakash Singh announced financial assistance, and compensation will be provided as per norms.
