Pump dealers seek SOP and tools for ethanol-blended petrol testing

in5points
Petrol pump dealers are demanding a standard operating procedure (SOP) and equipment to test ethanol-blended petrol (EBP) quality at over 100,000 pumps.
Dealers say they can only check density, not the exact percentage of ethanol doping, and sell what they receive from state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs).
The petroleum ministry's July 8 order directs states to coordinate with OMCs and enforcement agencies to prevent adulteration of petroleum products.
Only vehicles manufactured after 2023 are compliant with the 20% ethanol blend currently sold, though the government says EBP does not damage engines.
The government clarified it cannot sell 5% and 10% ethanol blends due to logistical challenges.
