Separated from lover, woman strangles husband to death with sari in UP's Pilibhit

A 37-year-old woman, Mamta, was arrested in Pilibhit, UP, for allegedly strangling her husband Umashankar, 42, with a sari.

Mamta allegedly drugged Umashankar and her children with sleeping pills mixed in a cold drink before killing him.

The crime occurred on Friday night; the couple's daughter woke her brother after hearing a noise, and they found Umashankar dead with a sari around his neck.

Mamta confessed to the murder, which followed her separation from her lover Nakul Bhavesh, 38, whom she met in Gujarat in February 2024.

After the murder, Mamta fled but was found hiding in a field about 300 meters from her house and was arrested.
