Short circuit triggers minor fire at Pune railway station

A short circuit in an electrical distribution (DP) box on platform number 1 at Pune railway station caused a minor fire on July 28, 2026, at around 3:50 pm.

Smoke was seen emanating from a junction box above the signal and telecommunication (S&T) office, prompting railway staff to disconnect power and initiate emergency protocols.

Firefighting personnel extinguished the fire within five minutes, by 3:55 pm, preventing injuries or major damage.

Technical teams repaired the damaged junction box and restored normal operations, with no impact on train services.

The incident was confirmed by Hemant Kumar Behera, spokesperson of the Pune railway division, who stated there were no casualties, injuries, or damage to train operations.
