Karnataka high court issues notice to govt on OC exemption for power connections

Karnataka high court issued notice to the state government, Greater Bengaluru Authority, Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission, and five electricity supply companies regarding a PIL challenging a June 22, 2026 government order.

The government order grants one-time exemption from occupancy or completion certificates for buildings up to 2,400 sqft with stilt parking and three floors to obtain permanent electricity connections.

The PIL by Bengaluru resident R Rajagopalan argues the order is arbitrary, discriminatory, encourages unauthorised constructions, and violates a 2024 Supreme Court judgment on illegal buildings.

The petition contends the government exceeded its jurisdiction, as electricity connections fall under KERC's regulatory domain.
