As of June 2026, Australia declared Kangaroo Island completely free of feral pigs after a 4-year eradication program.
The Kangaroo Island Feral Pig Eradication Program removed 878 pigs, with the last known sows removed in March 2024.
The program used heat-sensing cameras on helicopters, tracking dogs, traps, and environmental DNA testing.
It is the largest island worldwide to successfully eradicate an established feral pig population.
