Mumbai: BMC Intensifies Juhu Beach Clean-Up As 350 Metric Tonnes Of Marine Debris Washes Ashore Daily

in5points
BMC intensified Juhu Beach clean-up after heavy rains and high tides caused 350 metric tonnes of marine debris to wash ashore daily.
Nearly 1,800 metric tonnes of waste have been cleared and scientifically disposed of over the past 10 days.
BMC deployed additional machinery including one beach-cleaning machine, two bobcats, five dumpers, one JCB, and 90 extra workers.
Over 1,000 mm of rainfall in early July washed floating waste from drains into the Arabian Sea, which returns to the coast due to tidal action.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kishori Pednekar criticized BMC for sanitation failure and demanded an inquiry and white paper on sanitation.
