Russian billionaire sued a paint company for $100 million because his $300 million superyacht was not shiny enough, then spent $30 million repainting it

Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko sued Dutch paint company AkzoNobel for over $100 million because Motor Yacht A's finish lacked the promised mirror-like shine.

The lawsuit claimed the $300 million superyacht had visible defects like lines, sags, blotching, and a cloudy appearance in sunlight.

AkzoNobel repainted the yacht once at its own expense, but Melnichenko remained dissatisfied and sought damages.

Melnichenko authorized a complete repaint costing about $30 million while the lawsuit was ongoing.
