Karnataka govt transfers 160 mining dept officials in sweeping overhaul

Karnataka government transferred 160 mining department officials, nearly 80% of its workforce, in a single overhaul.

The transfers include 131 geologists, 23 senior geologists, and 6 deputy directors across districts.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar reviewed the department on July 1 and directed tighter enforcement against illegal mining and revenue boost.

Officials serving for prolonged periods in the same locations or home districts were shifted to dismantle local influence and tighten enforcement.

The reshuffle aims to curb illegal mining and quarrying and plug revenue leakages in Karnataka's mining sector.
