'Con job': Netanyahu celebrates ICC prosecutor's dismissal after arrest warrant battle

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the dismissal of International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan, calling him a 'con job' after Khan was removed over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Khan had sought arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant in 2024, alleging war crimes for intentionally depriving Gaza's civilian population of essentials like food, water, and medicine.

The ICC's governing body voted to remove Khan on July 26, 2026, with 82 of 125 member states supporting his dismissal for 'serious misconduct and a serious breach of duty.'

Netanyahu also criticized New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who had previously expressed intent to arrest Netanyahu but later admitted lacking authority; Netanyahu accused Mamdani of basing his pursuit on 'bogus charges' and 'fomenting hate' against Jews.

Netanyahu stated he plans to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, saying he intends to 'speak the truth, speak for Israel and for the Israeli-American alliance.'
