18 Months After Tribal Girls Death, Pen Doctor Booked For Alleged Medical Negligence

Pen Police filed an FIR against Dr. Mamta Madhukar Gajbe, former Medical Officer of PHC Kamal, for alleged medical negligence in the death of nine-year-old tribal student Khushbu Namdev Thakre.

A medical inquiry found that anti-leprosy drug Dapsone was not stopped despite blood tests showing elevated LDH, SGOT and SGPT levels indicating liver damage from January 3, 2025.

Khushbu developed fever and jaundice, was referred to higher hospitals, and died on January 22, 2025; post-mortem attributed death to intrapulmonary hemorrhage, myocarditis, and acute liver necrosis.

The inquiry stated Dr. Gajbe failed to discontinue Dapsone, did not monitor the child after referral, and did not adhere to medical protocols, contributing to the child's deterioration.
