After years of neglect, Bengaluru takes on debris menace

Karnataka government launched a month-long 'Freedom from Waste' campaign in Bengaluru to clear accumulated construction and demolition waste.

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar inaugurated the drive at a Metro construction site near Hebbal flyover.

Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML) has engaged Chaitra Civil Ventures LLP to collect and transport C&D waste to designated disposal sites.

Property owners have until August 15 to remove debris from their vacant sites; after the deadline, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will clean and recover costs.

Transportation of C&D waste is fixed at Rs 760.5 per tonne, with five designated quarries for dumping initial collected waste.
