Chandigarh: Man gets 5-year jail in snatching case

A Chandigarh sessions court sentenced Dinesh to five years rigorous imprisonment for snatching a labourer's wallet in Sector 48 on August 22, 2023.

Complainant Hari Pal testified consistently, identifying Dinesh and confirming the theft of his wallet containing ₹50 and an Aadhaar card.

The court rejected the defence's argument over minor inconsistencies, such as the wallet's colour described as brown then black, ruling they did not undermine the case.

An independent witness turned hostile, but the judge held that the sole reliable testimony of the victim was sufficient for conviction.

Dinesh was caught at the scene by passersby, eliminating any possibility of mistaken identity.
