Arizona teen helps elderly woman with dementia in 103F heat, officials warn of confusion as a sign of heatstroke

Royal Cothrun, a 14-year-old, helped save Theresa Morgan, an elderly woman with dementia, who wandered in 103F heat in Gilbert, Arizona.

Cothrun found Morgan struggling with a grocery bag and purse, recognized something was wrong, and stopped to assist.

He helped Morgan recall her son Jeff Morgan's phone number and called him, then stayed with her until fire and rescue arrived.

The Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department warns that sudden confusion or disorientation can be a sign of heatstroke.

Cothrun will be formally honored by the Arizona fire department for his quick thinking and compassion.
