School education department relaxes norms for semi-English teacher recruitment

Maharashtra school education department relaxed eligibility criteria for semi-English teacher recruitment under the Pavitra Portal.

Changes were notified on July 26, 2026 via corrigendum amending Government Resolution (GR) dated January 20, 2026.

Candidates become eligible based on their school education medium or second language studied, with preference for English-medium professional teacher education.

If eligible candidates from relevant social reservation category are unavailable, posts may be re-advertised and candidates without English-medium professional education may be considered if they have Class 12 (Science), BA/MA in English, or BSc/MSc.

Mandatory qualifications under RTE Act 2009 and TET requirements continue to apply for primary teachers teaching Classes 1–8.
