Iraqi surgeon grows nose on patient's forehead in rare reconstruction surgery to correct facial damage in high-voltage electrical accident

Iraqi surgeon Dr Diyar Abdulwahid performed a rare nose reconstruction using a prefabricated forehead flap technique on a laborer who lost a large section of his nose in a high-voltage electrical accident.

The technique involves cultivating nasal tissue on the patient's forehead for 2–6 weeks to develop blood vessels, then transferring it to the nose position in a second surgery.

Dr Abdulwahid noted that building a prefabricated forehead flap for an electrical burn injury is an unusual case worldwide, though standard facial repairs are common in the region.

The first phase of the surgery went well, and the nose tissues are currently developing on the forehead; the second phase will move the nose to its correct position.
