SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won ordered to pay ex-wife Roh Soh-yeong $644M in divorce settlement

Seoul High Court ordered SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won to pay ex-wife Roh Soh-yeong 944 billion won ($644 million) in cash as part of divorce settlement.

The court upheld that Chey's SK shares are marital assets because both spouses contributed to building and increasing their value.

Roh contributed through homemaking, child-rearing, and external activities related to SK Group, while Chey's business decisions increased company value.

The payout is nearly 14 times higher than the original 66.5 billion won awarded by the trial court.

Roh received the settlement entirely in cash to preserve Chey's management control over SK Group.
