Cellarim Labs makes cosmetic ingredients in India without fermentation

Cellarim Labs makes cosmetic ingredients in India using a cell-free biomanufacturing system that converts renewable bio-waste into hyaluronic acid.

The company's first product is NeuHyal, a hyaluronic acid range spanning molecular weights from 10 to 5000 kDa, allowing formulators to choose based on desired behavior.

Cellarim Labs raised ₹6 crore in a seed round co-led by 3i Partners and Venture Catalysts to move from lab batches to pilot-scale production.

The process claims to yield over 95%, use 90% less water, and produce 95% fewer emissions than fossil-fuel-based production, and is 80% more economical than precision fermentation.

Founded in 2023 by Nisa Mehreen and Hitesh Rafalia in Bengaluru, the company aims to reduce Indian beauty brands' dependence on imported hyaluronic acid.
